My experience (marching competition) It was a very long and sunny day but it doesn't matter because I love to make new friends, so I decided to join the competition and be the part of the team...
We do it with all our strength to win the competition but our effort was not enough to win the competition. Honestly, at the begining we were so frustrated because the commitment that we gave seems effortless but at the end of the day, we realise that this is not just a competition. It is more than that. We learn how to comunicate to each other, cooperate in team and etc.
So, either win or not, I really don't care because win is not everything is this life=)
